ESNOG 33: Strengthening Spain’s Internet Community through Technical Exchange
Bringing the Spanish Networking Ecosystem Together
The 33rd Spanish Network Operators Group meeting (ESNOG 33) concluded successfully after two days of in-depth discussions and community engagement at a university venue in Madrid. The event attracted a diverse group of participants from Spain’s networking sector, including engineers, service providers, and infrastructure experts.
With a well-balanced agenda, ESNOG 33 featured community updates, technical presentations, and a handful of commercial sessions. While approximately 70% of the sessions were delivered in Spanish, participants reported that the language mix did not hinder effective networking or engagement during key discussions.
Fostering Business Connections and Dialogue
The event was moderately sponsored, with 3–4 companies showcasing their solutions through onsite booths. Networking breaks and informal dinners created a relaxed environment conducive to meaningful conversations and new partnerships.
For LARUS, ESNOG 33 proved to be a valuable opportunity for direct engagement with industry peers. A discussion with Filip from Inter.link revealed a promising lead, as one of their clients is currently exploring a /16 IP lease. Productive interactions with Nokia’s network engineering team also generated mutual interest in IP leasing, with business cards exchanged and plans for future follow-up. At Contecnow, a meaningful conversation with David opened the door to potential collaboration, and the connection has since been established on LinkedIn to maintain communication. Meanwhile, the team at Genie Networks, though not currently in need of IP addresses, expressed openness and agreed to share information internally, with a follow-up already planned to stay on their radar.
Addressing Regional Collaboration Challenges
One notable challenge was the language barrier, as most technical talks were conducted in Spanish. However, this had minimal impact on the event’s overall networking success. Face-to-face discussions allowed participants, including LARUS, to build strong relationships and explore new opportunities across Spain’s growing internet ecosystem.
ESNOG 33 reinforced the importance of community-led initiatives in shaping resilient internet infrastructure. For LARUS, participation in the event aligned with its mission to support IP sustainability and foster local partnerships across Europe’s digital landscape.
